A Geometric Picture for Fermion Masses

چکیده
We describe a geometric picture for the pattern of fermion masses of the three generations which is invariant with respect to the renormalization group below the electroweak scale. Moreover, we predict the upper limit for the ratio between the Dirac masses of the μ and τ neutrinos, ( mνμ/mντ ) ≤ (9.6 ± 0.6) × 10. The Standard Model [1, 2] of strong and electroweak interactions describes accurately all the observed phenomena of elementary particles. In this framework, the fermion masses are essentially free parameters that must be fixed by experiment. Many efforts have been devoted to find relations among fermion masses, empirically and/or theoretically. For example, a composite model for “fundamental” fermions proposed in [3] predicts the following relation among the masses of the three generations of quarks and leptons mf(3) ∼ √

متن کاملCustodial SU(2) Violation and the Origin of Fermion Masses
Custodial SU(2) breaking due to dynamical fermion masses is studied in a rather general context and it is shown how some well known limiting cases are correctly described. The type of “gap equation” which can systematically lead to extra negative contributions to the so–called ρ–parameter is emphasized. Furthermore general model independent features are discussed and it is shown how electro–wea...
متن کاملThe Fermion Mass Hierarchy and Neutrino Mixing Problem
The fermion mass problem is briefly reviewed. The observed hierarchy of quark and charged lepton masses strongly suggests the existence of an approximately conserved chiral flavour symmetry beyond the Standard Model. It is argued that in models of this type, the requirement of a natural explanation for both the atmospheric and solar neutrino problems leads to an essentially unique picture of ne...
متن کاملSUSY SU(6) GIFT for Doublet-Triplet Splitting and Fermion Masses
The supersymmetric SU(6) model equipped by the flavour-blind discrete gauge symmetry Z3 is considered. It provides simultaneous solution to the doublet-triplet splitting problem, μ-problem and leads to natural understanding of fermion flavour. The Higgs doublets arise as Goldstone modes of the spontaneously broken accidental global SU(6) × U(6) symmetry of the Higgs superpotential. Their coupli...
متن کاملNondecoupling of Heavy Mirror-Fermion
According to one-loop perturbation theory, fermions whose masses are totally generated from Yukawa couplings do not decouple in the heavy mass limit. We investigate this issue nonperturbatively in the strong coupling regime of the chiral U(1) mirror-fermion model in four dimensions. Our numerical results, obtained on 6 · 16, 6 · 24 and 8 · 16 lattices, indicate nondecoupling of heavy fermion an...
